Shirley’s House Of Hope

Shirley’s House of Hope

By Joey Worzella

Shirley’s House of Hope was always Shiley’s  dream before she had passed away. I didn’t know her personally but she was a very nice lady. She wanted all our victims of abuse to have a place to stay. Well after we lost Shirley, Sue Pool and Julie Cravillion made a Board team once again. They’ve made strides and went above and beyond to get the word out and get it open. They had to raise 4,000 dollars a month. Just recently Sue Poole came to me and said that “we do not have all the funds for this yet but we have to open by the fall.” I want to thank all the corporate sponsors of Shirley’s House of Hope. My mother Jean Worzella and a couple of her friends who were on Leadership Marshfield this past year said ” We will help you raise money for playground equipment by doing a fun run.” They held a fun run at Wild wood Park here in Marshfield. We had many people come and run for fun. We also made shirts for those who ran. Our total profit from the Shirley’s House of Hope fun run was $5,000 for the Fun Run.  After we (Leadership Group) paid for the nice playground equipment and cost of the t-shirts , we made a total profit of around $3,000.   I also did a project through Marshfield High School FCCLA.  While I spent time thinking about a project I came up with at book drive. For three months i collected self help books for moms and teens. We got donated one hundred and some books for Shirley’s House of Hope.  Mrs. MacArthur of Marshfield High School asked me “Joey why arndt you entering in the contest?”  ”I said its not about winning the contest that I care about.” ”It’s about Shirley’s and all the victims out there that are suffering from abuse, that’s why I did it.”  I also just recently did a brat fry at pick in save here in Marshfield on Sunday June 6th and Monday June 7th.  I would say those were the busiest two days I have ever worked with these many people at a brat fry.  The total profit of the June brat fry was two hundred and some dollars. The June Book From The Abbey Book Fair made us another 136.00 dollars profit. My three final projects for Shirley’s for this summer will be a Community/Catholic church aluminum can drive for the months of July and August. I will be taking cans in for money to help them with personal expenses.  I will be at the Farshfield Fair this year with a donations table. and the second saturday and sunday i will have my last book fair/brat fry at Festival Foods.
